I’m exploring the virtual space as Miles Morales, co-star of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, whose presence elevates Insomniac’s latest title to a level of art worthy of Hughes’ poem. It’s a game about web-slinging and fistfights, sure, but it’s also about sacrifice and redemption, and every mile of its gorgeously-textured New York teems with human stories that redefine what heroism means. Marvel’s Spider-Man shows a more experienced Peter Parker than we usually see, as he’s been Spider-Man for around 8 years already at this point. Still, while he may have mastered his fighting skills, Peter still struggles to balance his personal life and his life as a crime-fighter. The book leads directly into the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man, first introducing Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, as he returns to New York, only this time he’s built himself a pretty sturdy reputation as an altruistic entrepreneur and philanthropist. An Evolution Of The Spider-man Story

These later stages are where the majority of Spider-Man 2’s thrills lay, however, as it really hits its stride late on, and emphatically wraps up a tale with miles of emotional depth that never once threatens to peter out. For it to count you have to activate these abilities DURING a Symbiote Surge (after the yellow bar in top right is fully charged and you pressed + to activate it). If you use these abilities without enabling Symbiote Charge it won’t count. 4 of them are automatically unlocked from story progress (unmissable) and 2 are bought from Peter’s skill tree. While the Symbiote Surge is active you have to trigger Symbiote Abilities a total of 25 times. Equip 4 of these abilities and make sure they are all charged and ready before activating the Surge. Then you can spam all 4 abilities in quick succession before the Surge ends.

Once Li informs him of Miles’ location, Peter arrives to storm Kraven’s fortress in an effort to rescue him and nearly kills Kraven before Miles intervenes, defeating the corrupted Peter and convincing him to remove the symbiote. Peter, Mary Jane, and Harry visit Coney Island to reconnect; while there, the Hunters attack the park to capture a reformed Tombstone. While Peter rescues civilians, he is assisted by a super-powered Harry, who learns about Peter’s double life.

While the format might be different, this should still be the amazing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 experience we all know and love. However, there’s now a third strand shared by both characters, which is something entirely new to the series. With it you can build on the combat and traversal skills that you would want in either Spider-Man, creating a more rounded – and appropriately – symbiotic duo. For the first time in the series, you can now switch between both Spider-Men, using their individual skills to explore different parts of the story.
